I’m not going to lie; letting go of burdens and cares is not an easy thing to do. All you want to do to those things is hold onto them with all of your heart. You think, “I’ll be satisfied if I can hold on with just one finger.” You’re convinced that if you cry over them long enough, it won’t matter anymore. Your mind is telling you that having something to keep you “on your toes” will help you, not hurt you.
But think about it. Your head may be saying one thing, but what is your heart saying? Underneath all of that weight and pain resides, what are you really feeling? Is it really worth it? Don’t you think that letting go of that enormous weight constantly pulling you down would make you feel…better?
Taking everything you’re feeling in a time of sorrow and letting it fall away is more of a relief than anything you will ever have experienced before. All of a sudden, that weight is gone. You feel lighter. Not exactly empty; more like free. After so much pain piercing through your heart for so long, you at last feel as if you can conquer the world. You are unstoppable. You can do anything.
For a long time I found myself stumbling around with an unbearable weight pulling down on my heart. I constantly thought there was nothing I could do about it–until it became impossible to bear. All in one moment, I closed my eyes and let it all fall away. When I opened my eyes, I smiled. I danced around in a circle. There was nothing I couldn’t do. I was my own person again. Nothing could control me.
It’s up to you what you do with this newfound freedom. But once you let go of your sorrow, you’ll have plenty of room to decide.
