Runner

I, the lazy bum, went running.

I’m not talking sprinting, that kind of being-chased-by-a-polar-bear kind of running. I’m talking heel-toe, Gatorade, breathe-in-rhythm kind of running. It’s not that hard once you get it down. The hardest part, I’ll admit, was doing it after two months of absolutely no exercise whatsoever. I kind of felt like throwing up afterwards, kind of like that race my mom and I did on a whim back in January.

The satisfaction you feel after exercising like that, though, definitely cancels out the temporary need to vomit. And the sore muscles the afternoon after. And the sore muscles the day after. But that’s why you run two days in a row. It’s kind of like telling your body to suck it up. I was close to “taking a day off” this morning, until I remembered the pair of jeans in my closet that mysteriously doesn’t fit anymore. Ha. Ha.

I’m not going to lie, though; running with my mom is kind of depressing. She’s got her fancy running shoes and the cool headbands and the right running clothes (not just shorts and a wrinkled T-shirt she pulled out of the back of her closet). I mean, I guess it helps that she’s training for her fifth Chicago Marathon in a row, and that she teaches other people how to run and eat right and all that. But it kind of makes me feel..I don’t know. Like I should have learned more from her by now.

Yesterday was an amazing day, starting with the little-over-a-mile run and getting better as the day went on. I totally got a chapter-and-a-half done, over 1,500 words, and I got past the roadblock that was keeping me from getting anything done. I also got a ton of reading done (almost done with that Fortunes of Indigo Skye book). I have about thirty pages left, and I still hate her boyfriend, Trevor, her “best friend,” Melanie, and what she’s doing with all her money. If some guy gave me 2.5 million dollars and refused to take it back, I’d put it in the bank. Who needs nice things, anyway? It’s all about not spending.

I’m kind of sore and sweaty from my run (ew), and it totally wasn’t cloudy when we were out there, but now it totally is as I’m looking out my window. I plan on finishing the book, putting it on my bookshelf, working on Reminiscence (my own book), and ordering my senior pictures. Maybe I’ll even start reading another book. I mean, I don’t have that many left, and I have exactly two weeks to get them all done. I think I can do it.

Have a great Wednesday, and remember: stay off the roads while Evie’s driving legally.

Love&hugs, Meg♥
