Hamlet = Simba!

Ugh! Hasn’t cyber-world been so boring without me?

Come on: sarcasm is what holds us all together on the inside.

In my last post I talked about books, and I’m happy to inform you that I’m in the process of making a list of all the books I strongly desire to read before I go away to college next fall. Lucky for you, I’ll be putting it up on here (maybe). So you’ll get to scroll through all of the books I would run (yes, run) to Border’s and buy if I felt like it. I kind of feel like it now…but I just put most of my piggy bank money in my savings account, and taking it out would require patience and willpower. I have neither of those things.

I really hate borrowing books (and lending other people books). I’m kind of weird like that—I get more satisfaction out of filling up the bookshelves in my room than any normal person could ever hope to get out of winning one of those sports championship things. So borrowing books means I don’t get to put them on my bookshelf when I’m done. And that kind of makes me sad. But I still do borrow books from people on occasion, because reading is just so much fun! But no libraries.

There was a point to bringing this typically boring subject up again.

I’m in two English classes this semester, and I’m simultaneously reading The Trial and Death of Socrates and Hamlet. Now, the book about Socrates is kind of extremely boring and made me fall asleep the FIRST time I read the part about Euthyphro (I’ve read it three times now, and it still makes my head hurt a little). But Hamlet is amazing!

I’m one of those people that can pretty much understand Shakespeare (thanks to my sophomore English teacher), and I’m not gonna lie: I think I’m in love. Not with Will, because anyone who’s in love with a dead guy they never met is psycho, but with the way he wrote! If you’ve never taken the time to just read some of his plays, I highly recommend it. I don’t get why people don’t talk like that anymore. It’s so beautiful! I mean, it just flows. His vocabulary (even the words he made up) is unbelievable.

Did you know that the plot of The Lion King was inspired by Hamlet?

If you haven’t seen this movie, (1) you are culturally deprived, and (2) just watch it. It’s amazing. Who doesn’t love cute talking animals that sing? And the musical is almost as awesome!

Thankfully, my only homework tonight (ew…that word is so gross!) is to read Acts I and II. Since I have so much time on my hands (ha ha…there’s that sarcasm again) I may just read ahead. I mean, why not? It’s not like my AP Lit teacher will scold me for going above and beyond her expectations. Isn’t that what advanced placement is? I don’t think I could stand to drop down to the honors level. They write, like, one paper all year. Yuck.

Then again, I could always finish reading Twilight, since it’s an extremely easy and quick read (you don’t have to use your brain to figure out what’s going on…that’s why most people love it so much). I mean, it’s a great story—don’t get me wrong. I’m reading it, honestly, just to see what all the fuss is about. I mean, you have your crazed fans, your “eh” readers and your “don’t-even-mention-that-book-in-my-presence” critics. (My creative writing teacher made a girl leave her copy in the hallway last year.) It’s kind of addicting, but I stayed up late reading it last night and dreamed about vampires. So no more of that.

I wore a dress to school last week, for the first time since first grade, and I’m really upset that I don’t have a picture to show you. See, I had one of those wireless flash-drive things that gave me Internet when I plugged it into the USB port on my computer, and—to make a long story short—it’s broken. So I had to kick my poor brother off the computer upstairs just to write to you. And I feel kind of bad about that.

But only a little.

He thinks he’s so cool now, just because my parents recently bought him an emergency cell phone. He actually texted me on the bus this morning (I was on the bus…he was at home, sitting on the couch) to tell me good-bye. It was kind of sweet, until I remembered that he and my mom were going with my friend’s mom and sister to the beach later in the morning. I sent back that little : p emoticon.

Oh yeah! Did I mention I finished writing my novel?

Love&hugs, Meg♥

Wow, so my friend told me to come here because you reminded her of me…

…and you remind ME of me. :P The way you talk, I mean. I’ve never read Shakespeare (though I love Black Beauty and recently read a historical romance, both of which have the old-time feel even if not written in Shakespeareian time). So we’re not on the same page of everything. But the way you talk, haha, that’s how I type. :D

The Lion King is awesome! I loved the second one more (gotta love a tough gal like Kiara!), but can’t help being smitten by the engrossing tale of Simba. Now I know about the Hamlet thing! I sure didn’t know that before though figured there was SOME story it was based on. I’d actually been wondering lately, so that clears it up.

I’m one of Twilight “eh” readers. :P It’s a good read, but like you said, no brain needed and not really the most interesting of stories. I definitely am NOT googoogaga over Edward. Don’t see the appeal at all. There is one guy in a novel who I fell MADLY in love with and cried when I thought he was leaving the main character. “If I can’t have him, I want her to!” and there are times when I’m not in love with the dude but desperately want everything to work out between the main character and him. Well, Edward? I wouldn’t have cared less if they separated and never got back together. Just can’t get over him being, not only a fictional character, but this dude who’s NEVER been interested in a girl. So why now? Why her? So lame.

Or maybe I’m just jealous because I wish a guy were that way with me…oh except uh, if it were Edward, I’d have thrown up. :P He’s so…

Writing is fun. Books are love (when they’re a great read.)

Well, anyway, it sure was interesting for me to read this. :)
