NaNoWriMo – Day 10

The good news is, I’m now at 18,385 words.

The bad news, though, is that I’m getting even closer to Point Meltdown. (If you are unfamiliar with Point Meltdown, see NaNoWriMo – Day 6: Point Meltdown.) I’m only about two chapters away. Wow, that went fast! Wasn’t I just talking about how far away it was? Laughs quietly to self and realizes that, most likely, no one else is laughing with her.

I don’t know how i managed to write over 2,000 words while I was at school today, but it happened nonetheless. I guess that it’s pretty cool, since I’m not really sure how much writing I’m actually going to get done tonight. There’s no school tomorrow, so I may end up doing all of my homework tonight. At least, I really hope so. I really don’t want to do it tomorrow.

Right now my novel is 57 pages long, which I didn’t realize until I just glanced at it about two seconds ago. That’s a lot of pages, especially when you shrink down page size for printing, and there’s still a lot more coming. Like I said, I have plenty ideas about what I want to happen next, I just haven’t really gotten around to writing them down yet. I do know it involves some paint, of various kinds. But that’s all I’m going to say, for Evie’s sake.

A girl I know from school asked for a few tiny snippets of my novel, for reasons I will mention at a later date and time, but here’s what I gave her, for your own entertainment:

“I looked over to the rulers of the courtyard, who were now attempting to succeed in creating a massage train. It was rather disturbing.”

“Melanie plucked one of the pom-poms from her shoulder bag and just stared at it. It was painful to watch them all so dysfunctional. Yet, at the same time, it wasn’t bad entertainment.”

“Besides, there was no teacher’s assistant to haul the equipment around, and I’m the one who had to do it instead. I wasn’t built to carry anything, other than books. Ever.”

“My bus driver, whatever his name was, was too nice of a guy to leave me all alone without a way home. He would stop for me. Wouldn’t he?”

“She obviously wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. I mean, come on—she was wearing bunny slippers. Bunny slippers are the international symbol of long-lasting comfort.”

Out of context, these quotes are really weird, and maybe kind of funny. But they all fit in context, I promise.

Remember: never skip a page in a good novel. You WILL miss something.

Love&hugs, Meg♥

Wow. How do you do it? It’s all I can do to stay one day ahead of word count. Total inspiration to me …

You know what really helps me write so much? Not being able to glance down at my word count every five seconds. I have a notebook that I’ve been using just for NaNo, one that I take to school with me. I write in it whenever I get a chance—in-between classes, during lunch, whenever. Because I don’t know how many words I’ve written, I’m not focusing on that, I’m just focusing on the story. Before I know it, I’ve written several thousand words without realizing it. The easiest thing for me to do is to stop looking at word count, because when you do that, you feel like you haven’t gotten anything done at all.
