? Of The Month

Why does every new blogger smother themselves in the mindset that their blog is going to become the most-read blog in the history of ever?

News flash: most likely, it’s not going to happen. Unless you’re already famous, starting a blog and making some sort of attempt to be insightful and interesting is not going to get you a million hits on each entry you post. Most likely (if you tell your friends and Facebook/Twitter/YouTube universe(s) about it), you might get one or two hits on your sort-of-not-very-actually-not-at-all-beijing [amazing] posts.

I guess people want to feel special. Right? So they say, “Hey! So-and-so who wrote this book series has a blog that everybody reads! Maybe if I start a blog and talk about the things I think are most interesting, everybody will read my blog, too!”

No. Just stop.

Most attempts at popular blogs are duds. Why? Because not every blogger with a dream to be Awesome knows how to blog well (myself included) or is one of those people who can naturally make anything they blabber on about sound intere3sting enough (I have not, nor will I ever, master this art). If people blogged without being depressed that two people across the globe (one of those people being themselves) read their posts, maybe they’d figure out that it’s actually fun, regardless of how many people read it.

I sure don’t blog for the hits. Seriously? I’m bored out of my mind half the time. And you have to tell somebody about your writing progress when you’re pressing through a novel-month, or you’ll go insane. (Speaking of which, JulNoWriMo starts on Thursday. What?) And if you [two] happen to be reading this, I have a question for you: don’t you have better things to do than listen to me ramble? Come on.

I haven’t written anything in a very, very long time. I’m five books away from my summer goal (25). I have yet to get my ACT/AP score(s), write my thank-you notes, and/or outline the novel I’ll be working on all next month. But it’s summer, I don’t have anything else to do, and I’m okay with that.

What am I not okay with? A sunburned butt.

May the rest of your month be pain-free, laid back, and…summer-y.

Love&hugs, Meg♥

    Hey darling,
I am trying to get better at following your blog. In my catching up I could not help but smile while reading this. This is going to be great to hear your thoughts in college. Although about the random blogs a movie you need to watch: Julie & Julia. Then blog about it! :)
