Disastrous Happenings

The good news is, it’s only July 9th.

There’s a lot of bad news overpowering that virtually meaningless fact, however. The first piece of bad news is that, after Evie got into her car accident (and didn’t get hurt too badly, another hunk of good news), I went to her house to try and make her feel better, and it didn’t exactly help. But que sera, sera, right? And then I had to get a shot today, in my left arm, even though my mother had previously assured me that my college physical would not include a seemingly nice nurse poking me with a needle. But I’m suring living in the dorms will be worth three seconds of sharp pain and a few days of soreness. I hope.

The worst news I have for you, though, makes me very sad. Unfortunately, after going crazy and writing almost 30,000 words in less than forty-eight hours, I woke up yesterday morning to a very stubborn, not-wanting-to-work-properly computer. So not only did I lose about five pages of the best writing I’ve done so far this month (thankfully it wasn’t any more than that—I love you Colleen! You have saved my life, and am eternally grateful!), but I also lost an entire day of writing…for reasons I still can’t exactly figure out. So my wonderful spot in the JulNoWriMo statistics has since dropped to:

18.

Which is okay. Really. I mean, out of 611 participants so far, that’s pretty good. And fortunately, since I was very close and on the right track to winning yesterday (if I’d followed the same pattern as before), I expect to win within the next hour or two. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop writing, of course. This thing has AT LEAST 20,000+ words to go before I reach the end. And the scary part is, I’m not completely sure how I want to end it yet. I guess I should probably figure that out soon.

Word count as of 07/09/10, 4:07PM Chicago time: 47,720.

The good thing is, my life could be a whole lot worse, so the bad things I mentioned aren’t really that bad at all. Just sort of unfortunate, in a way that makes me a little sad but isn’t bound to shift the status of my summer from “awesome” to “not so great.” Summer’s awesome because of the zero-school factor, my almost no longer being considered a minor, and this novel that I promise I’ll tell you more about tomorrow. I just realized I haven’t really told you anything about the story. Isn’t that wonderful of me?

I got that intervention I asked for, by the way. Be careful what you wish for.

Love&hugs, Meg♥
