Pros and Cons of JulNoWriMo

First off, I would just like to inform you all that I am sitting outside on the back deck, writing to you, because my laptop has finally arrived. Actually, it came on Monday, but I didn’t feel like writing until now. Anyway, I have named her Lorelai, and my wireless printer has been given the nickname Rory. I love my life.

I also finished writing my novel on Wednesday, an accomplishment that has temporarily relieved all of my stress. Yay for no stress! I don’t remember my exact final word count—100,700-something, I’m pretty sure. I finished in the top ten of the JulNoWriMo statistics, #8 to be exact. Since then, however, I’ve been bumped to #9, of course. But that’s okay. I did a lot better than last year.

One thing I love about the July Novel Writing Month web site is that the stats really motivate you to write every day, for the most part. If it weren’t for my unfortunate extremely competitive nature, I never would have written so much in one month.

One thing I don’t really like about it is that it’s not as officially organized as the official National Novel Writing Month site. You get people entering over 300,000 words before the month is halfway over, things like that. I also don’t like the fact that they’re letting you keep entering your word count even after July is over. That doesn’t really make sense to me. Isn’t it JULY novel writing month, not July/August/whenever novel writing month(s)?

Oh well. I just like having an excuse to be motivated and spent a month every summer writing a novel.

After I stay away from it for a week or two, or at least until the MS Office 2010 I ordered for my Mac gets here. I’m pretty much just using it for the Internet, since it’s wireless and all, until I can use it to write. I just hope I’m not tempted to start another novel before I go off to school on the 26th.

I’m pretty much all ready to move into the dorm. All my stuff (bedding, desk lamp, etc) is piled up behind my door. I guess it’s a good thing that I don’t have to look at it for a little while. I still have to go buy some new jeans and T-shirts, and some more hand towels. But other than that, I don’t think I have to spend any more money.

I also finished my goal of reading 25 books in a single summer. I’m very excited about that! I still have a ton more books to read before school starts, but really, I don’t have anything else to do until then. I have to write birthday thank-you notes, get a new phone, and I think that’s pretty much it. That’s a good feeling.

I must go eat lunch now. Om nom nom.

Love&hugs, Meg <3
