I’m trying to finish up my summer reading list, since I just recently realized that tomorrow is August and therefore I am seriously running out of time to enjoy my freedom (because, I feel it fit to add, next summer will most likely include one more required science class, plus a job, plus who knows what else). College is pretty much almost here. Is it just me?…or is this one of those moments you’re just supposed to sit and stare at the wall….because it’s just too unreal.
I’ll be starting my College Countdown tomorrow, even though I don’t really want to think about it and have all my dorm stuff and a thousand note cards crammed behind the door of my bedroom. Classes start September first. Thus begins a semester crammed to capacity with music psych writing reading studying late nights cafeteria food dealing with people reading early rising writing and all the other fun stuff that comes with going away to school.
Sigh.
Anyway, as I was saying, I’m working on reading all the rest of the books that are still sitting on my dresser. I’m down to six, after I finish the Meg Cabot book. I’ll list all the books I’ve read since finals ended and whatnot later. When I finish reading them all.
Today I finished reading The Secret Diary of Ashley Juergens (by, shock, Ashley Juergens). Since I’m a fan of Secret Life (and pretty much every other ABC Family show in the lineup, original or non), I was curious when I saw it on the web site. So I got it and read it and I have to say, I LOVED IT.
Pretty much all it is is the first season and a little bit of the second season told from Ashley’s point of view in her “diary.” I didn’t know what to expect, and I was surprised at how many times it made me smile, and I think I even laughed out loud once or twice. That’s a good thing, in my case.
There’s something that totally bugs me about the show, though. Actually, maybe just a few tini tiny things. The first one is, despite the fact that they wrote Molly Ringwald’s pregnancy into the script during the first half of the second season, they haven’t been doing a very good job of making George and Anne’s kid a big part of the storyline. You barely see him (ever), and though they mention him a few times here and there, it’s never significant. It just irks me for some reason. I wish they could have followed through more with the drama of Anne having another kid in the first place. After she had him, it kind of just died down, and that was it. FRUSTRATION.
Actually, that’s really the only thing. I’m kind of wondering where they’re going with Adrian and her baby though. If she keeps it, it’ll kind of just be like the first season all over again…yawn. She should give it up for adoption. That way, we see the alternative route. She could have gone ahead with the abortion, there would have been plenty more drama to work with there, but whatever.
My diary is SO nothing like Ashley’s. Probably because nothing ever happens to me, and I never have anything good to write about. Not that I’m complaining. My family is so not dysfunctional, thank God.
Love&hugs, Meg<3
