1. Even if you have been writing for a long time and you think you know all there is to know, you are one hundred percent wrong.
2. It’s not always “writer’s block” that stops you from writing. Sometimes — okay, many times — it’s something completely out of your control.
3. There are going to be times you start writing and know you’re not doing your best work, but you have to keep pushing forward anyway to get to the good stuff.
4. Also, distractions? Yeah, you’re not immune to them no matter how much you think you are a master at focusing on even one task. (I just got sidetracked for almost a full hour in the middle of writing this post. It’s real.)
5. When you don’t feel like writing, you technically (a lot of the time) don’t have to write. But here’s a fun secret: Disney+ is not nearly as fun to watch when you know you should be writing instead. It is much more enjoyable of an experience when all your writing gets done first.
6. Unless you are paying someone to tell you whether your words are good or not, you kind of just have to keep writing things even if you aren’t sure whether or not it’s “good enough.”
7. Writing doesn’t actually get easier as you go, and neither does the process. Writing requires constant adjustment, consistent work, and nonstop improvement. But it’s worth it, always.
8. You will never have enough time to work on all the ideas and projects you want to work on. It’s just never going to happen. Accept it. Pick the things that mean the most to you, focus on those, and have fun.
9. It’s OK to struggle. It’s normal to feel insecure and uncertain. There is nothing “wrong” with you simply because you aren’t feeling confident or capable at this particular moment.
10. Writing is the perfect blend of challenging, entertaining, and rewarding. Every day is something different. Every moment is a journey. It never ends. And that’s a good thing.
