So I started reading a book yesterday.
Not feeling so great after my second morning run in a row, I finished The Fortunes of Indigo Skye. I’m still not sure if I liked it or didn’t, but I finished it, stuffed the thing on my fast-growing bookshelf, and picked up Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. And let me tell you, that was probably the best decision I ever could have made.
I’m telling you, this book is AMAZING! I fell in love with it from the very first page. Once I started reading, I couldn’t really put it down. So I pretty much read from nine in the morning to six in the evening, and then more later on. In all, I read about 212 pages out of a total 415 in one day. So I figure, if I read just as much as I did yesterday, I should be finished by tonight.
It’s one of those books that just draws you in somehow, giving you enough information to get you hooked and then giving you more as you read on. Pieces of the puzzle are filled in by flashbacks within the story, which is the most entertaining way that an author can reveal vital information to an audience in novel form. I’ve really fallen for Sarah’s writing. She’s written other stuff, like Someone Like You and Along for the Ride. I now know what I’ll be hunting for the next time I go to Border’s.
Not to say that I’m still not looking forward to obtaining Meg Cabot reads. I adore her blog and am really looking forward to getting to know her through her writing. Yeah, it’s quite a decision now how much I want to spend on her books vs. others. But I’ve always loved her books, and that darn list of 100 things doesn’t change too often. Even though there aren’t quite yet 100 things on it.

Along with all the reading I got done yesterday, I also finished chapter 56 of my own novel, Reminiscence. It’s kind of like Lock and Key in the sense that you know absolutely nothing about the story until you keep reading. The reader starts out with a million questions in his or her mind. The only way to get those questions answered is to keep reading. As the story progresses, the reader finds out more and more about the past and how it affects the present. There are plenty of little things, but also big secrets, too.
I’m really excited, because some of the biggest secrets of the story have yet to be revealed. I’m the only one that knows them, which is plenty of excitement in itself. This is bad news for Evie, and possibly her mom, who are (maybe) the only two people who have access to the raw manuscript. (I say maybe because I’m not sure if Evie’s amazing mom has actually sat down to read it. But I’m okay either way.) I don’t want it to end but, at the same time, I’m ready to have a set ending. I keep changing it around a little in my mind as I get closer.
I went for yet another run this morning, and I didn’t feel like dying. It was actually a really good run. That’s what happens when you push yourself. I mean, it takes a lot of willpower to exercise three days in a row when you haven’t done any physical activity in two months. But I’m really glad I have been, because it’s getting easier. Which means I’ll probably be able to go further than a mile by the beginning of next week.
Well, I’m off to read one of the most intriguing books I’ve ever read! Have a good one, and remember: summer’s only summer if you stay up late at least once a week.
Love&hugs, Meg♥
